DH2: Electric Boogaloo
What up, internet people? Your friendly neighborhood dino hunter is here!
If you're reading this I probably invited you here myself, so I'm not gonna waste too much time on introductions. I'm just another random nerdy nobody on the internet anyway, there's not much to know! Here's the lowdown just in case- I'll try to make it quick!
My name's Chris Eye, I'm an American artist- the "hobbyist with Photoshop and a lot of free time" type, not the exciting well-paid professional type- who loves nature and designs creatures for fun. I was always "that dinosaur kid" growing up, or "the weird bug guy" to all my past and present coworkers who can't believe I'm willing to escort crickets and spiders off the premises without smashing them. I'm that weird ex you had to drag kicking and screaming to Happy Gilmore because "nobody even gets eaten in that movie". I'm that childhood friend who was always stoked to come over and play Super Nintendo with you but only wanted to play King of the Monsters 2 and didn't have any idea who Samus, Link, or Ryu were.
I'm also a child of the 90s who grew up with the old internet- GeoCities and Angelfire, dial-up internet, Flash cartoons and forums. Back when EBay and YouTube were brand new, when MSN and AIM were how long distance friends kept in touch. I've been a part of that "always inside, always online" culture all of my life and at this point am almost certainly known to more people as some variation of "Dino Hunter 2.0" (my old AIM username!) than by my real name.
The way the internet looks and functions has changed a lot since I was a kid, and so has how and how often I've interacted with it, but the one constant is that it's always felt like a sort of judgement-free safe space where I can tinker with my silly ideas in peace. It's where I post short stories and drawings, where I plot out all the movies and games I'll never make but totally would've if I could've, where I pay homage to my favorite artists and franchises and write reviews and gush about what I love. I've been doing that stuff for decades now, just as a hobby, for fun and creative exercise. I've never been a big hit or an internet celebrity but I have been on a lot of different platforms like old proboard and php forums, cryptozoology and movie fan sites, DeviantArt, social media, wikis, so on and so forth... this quaint little blog is just the latest iteration of that personal pursuit.
Will it last? Will it amount to anything? Ah, who knows- and who cares?! Keep up or don't, friends and passers by, I'll be doing my thing regardless! :]
